Dr. Jose Maria (Chema) LAGARON is currently Group Leader and Founder of the group Novel Materials and Nanotechnology at the Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology (IATA) of the Spanish Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) located in Valencia, Spain. He is also Lecturer of Materials Science at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Design (ESID), Polymers Group of the Area of Materials of the University Jaume I in Castellón, Spain.
JM LAGARON is also project-leader for the institution within the FP6 and FP7 European Integrated Projects SUSTAINPACK, FRISBEE, ECOBIOCAP and NEWBONE, related to the development of novel nanobiocomposite concepts for packaging and biomedical applications. He is also member of the "Management Committee" (MC) for Spain of the Cost 868 Action related to "Biotechnical Functionalisation of Renewable Polymeric Materials" and of the Cost FA0904 action about "Eco-sustainable food packaging based on polymer nanomaterials" and is member of the Steering Committee of the network "European Network for Gastrointestinal Health Research 08-RNP-018". Moreover, he is Scientific Expert in the reserve of the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) pannels on "food additives and nutrient sources added to foods (ANS)" and on "food contact materials, enzymes, flavourings and processing aids" (CEF).
Finally, he is Founder of the Nanobiotech SMEs Bioinicia S.L. and Nanobiomatters Industries (Bactiblock and O2block) S.L.
